NOTE announces increased capacity in South America
NOTE is a member of ems-ALLIANCE, a co-operative alliance of five contract manufacturers from different parts of the world.
During a well-attended event in Porto Alegre yesterday, Alliance member Teikon inaugurated a new factory in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The inauguration took place in the context of the ems-ALLIANCE semi-annual conference.
"We're pleased to be able to offer European customers twice the capacity in South America," says Erik Stenfors, CEO of NOTE. By transferring production to end markets, logistics costs are significantly reduced.
A further manufacturing unit in the so-called tax-free zone in Manaus, Brazil, is planned to be inaugurated in 2005.
"We are seeing an increased interest in manufacturing in South America, mainly in the telecoms and automotive sectors, and we are therefore very pleased with our partner's expansion," said Marina Filipsson, President of ems-ALLIANCE.
One of NOTE's customers, mobile phone company Neonode, with a development unit in Stockholm, Sweden, was a guest speaker at the opening ceremony. "Our mobile phones are industrialised by NOTE in Sweden and then moved to NOTE's units in Central Europe, which provides an optimal cost picture for our customers in Europe. For some other markets, NOTE's global alliance is necessary because it eliminates trade barriers, logistics and service issues, etc," said Magnus Goertz, founder of Neonode.
